Data availability: Shared Health Priorities Indicators for Adults, 2025
Released: 2026-09-03
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing new results on Shared Health Priorities indicators for adults from data collected during the 2025 cycle of the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS).
The Shared Health Priorities indicators were developed collaboratively by federal, provincial and territorial governments, in partnership with the Canadian Institute for Health Information, to focus on improving access to and quality of care.
Additional 2025 CCHS results on adults, including annual data tables with health indicators, will be available later this year.
Note to readers
The data used are from the 2025 annual cycle of the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), which covers respondents living in the provinces. Data were collected from January 2, 2025, to December 31, 2025. Territorial data were not included, given that the coverage of the 2025 CCHS does not represent the entire population of the territories. Data for the territories will be reported when the combined CCHS data for 2025 and 2026 are released next year.
The Shared Health Priorities indicators included in the CCHS are the following:
- Canadians with a primary health care provider;
- Canadians with a primary health care team;
- Canadians with same-day or next-day access to a health care provider;
- Canadians who were satisfied with the wait time to access a health care provider;
- Canadians treated with respect regarding culture and identity by a health care provider;
- Canadians with a mental health disorder who have an unmet need for mental health care;
- Canadians who have electronic access to core components of their health records;
- Canadians who use technology to understand and manage their health;
- Canadians who report actively engaging with digital health services;
- Canadians who report digital services as useful for managing their health;
- Home care services helped the recipient stay at home.
Survey sample weights were applied so that the estimates are representative of the 2025 Canadian population for adults aged 18 and older living in the provinces.
The indicator "Canadians with a primary health care team" is not a Shared Health Priorities indicator and is included for additional context. Statistics Canada and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) report on related but distinct measures of team-based primary care: Statistics Canada captures self-reported experience of receiving care from a primary health care team, while CIHI measures attachment to a regular provider within an interprofessional team using administrative data. The measures are not directly comparable and should be interpreted as complementary sources of information. Similarly, the indicators "Canadians who report actively engaging with digital health services" and "Canadians who report digital services as useful for managing their health" are not Shared Health Priorities indicators. They are included in the release to provide additional context on digital health literacy among Canadians.
