  • Articles and reports: 36-28-0001202601000003
Description: There is ongoing debate regarding which groups of workers could be impacted by artificial intelligence (AI). One hypothesis is that AI could make existing workers more productive, thus reducing the need to hire new workers, particularly for entry-level roles. Conversely, by making some groups of workers potentially more productive, AI might induce firms to hire more of these workers. This article examines hiring and job separation rates for employees aged 15 to 64 in Canada using Labour Force Survey data from January 2006 to August 2026, distinguishing jobs based on their potential occupational exposure to and complementarity with AI.

  • Articles and reports: 36-28-0001202600900001
Description: Interprovincial labour mobility serves as a useful mechanism for advancing labour market adjustment across Canada. The current paper contributes to this discussion by using linked Census and administrative data to measure inter-provincial labour mobility at the 4-digit National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 level. To generate timely indicators, this work produces predicted experimental mobility estimates by updating the 2021/2022 reference estimates from the linked Census–administrative file with more current demographic information from the Labour Force Survey. The methodology outlined in this paper offers a practical approach for producing such predicted indicators on an ongoing basis and for tracking emerging mobility patterns across Canada's labour market.
